Wedding Photography from Macroom Church, Dunmore House Hotel and Red Strand, West Cork

Ok, its been way too long since my last blog post and I have tonnes of new work to post so lets get to it…

Kicking off, here is a wedding I have fond memories of from a while back. After Joanna & Aidan’s ceremony in Macroom we made for Dunmore House Hotel, just past Clonakilty in West Cork. The weather just about hung in there for us and we shot down to Red Strand for a few photos before heading back to the hotel. I just love that beach with it’s views across to Galley Head and sheltered dunes, it gives loads of options.

A big thanks to Joanna & Aiden for a great day.

Glanmire Church, Riverstown House, Clonakilty, Wedding Photography

Sharon & Ken’s engagement photography down at the Marina in Cork only a few days before the wedding was blessed with some amazing autumnal light and calm conditions so the omens were good for the big day and it didn’t disappoint. And while the sun made a few brief appearances on the day it certainly didn’t take from the magic of the occasion.

Glanmire church is certainly one of the more spacious and bright churches in Cork and it looked wonderful all decked out in white. We had been discussing locations for some photos in the lead up to the wedding and the location of Riverstown House came up. Having been there before, on the other side of the camera, I knew it was a stunning backdrop and was excited to finally make some pictures there myself and I love them. Then it was on to the ever popular Dunmore House Hotel in West Cork with a quick pit stop in Clonakilty at the Old Linen Hall for a few shots.

Now, I have to be honest and credit Sharon for coming up with the idea for this location, but as soon as I saw it I knew it would be great spot for a picture and indeed I made one of my favourite pictures of all time there. The red door and blue walls are lovely and colourful but I wanted to add a bit of movement to the shot and asked Sharon and Ken to run passed as if they were late for the reception. Now that got Ken moving all right and all credit again to Sharon for flashing that little bit of leg, just enough to make the picture magic!

Thanks again guys and look forward to seeing you again sometime.! ;-D

Wedding Photography Cork at Blackrock Castle, Kingsley Hotel and Marina Cork by Darren Forde Wedding Photographer

Louise & Denis – Blackrock Castle Wedding Cork

Louise & Denis tie the knot, literally, in a gorgeous, chic wedding ceremony at Blackrock Castle, Cork

My first wedding in Blackrock Castle Cork this year and boy did not disappoint. Louise & Denis from Cork tied the knot, literally, in a beautiful Humanist Wedding Ceremony under the tower of Cork’s historic and iconic harbour castle. I thought it would be cool and unusual to capture a few pictures downstairs in the ‘dungeon’ of the old castle (actually the old storage area for gunpowder and arms) while we were there. Afterwards it was down to the Marina walk for a gorgeous set of images with the VW bus (thanks Cormac). It was an amazing day with a great couple topped off with a delicious meal in the Kingsley Hotel, Cork.

I have to say the bride’s bouquet was the most amazing thing I have ever seen so kudos to you Denis on that one!

Engagement Shoot – Atlantic Pond – Ann-Marie & Jordan

by Cork Wedding Photographer Darren Forde

Here’s another not so recent shoot—Ann-Marie & Jordan’s Engagement shoot from back in April.

I just finished shooting their wedding in the glorious Castlemartyr Resort but back in April we got together on a brisk Spring afternoon for a quick engagement shoot. And fair play to Coco the dog for coming along too and being so well behaved.

Gougane Barra and Kenmare Bay Wedding by Cork Wedding Photographer Darren Forde

Sharon & Kieran beautiful Gougane Barra wedding photography.

Photographed by Darren Forde, Wedding Photographers Cork

On a beautiful, if a tad windy day in the valley of Saint Finbarr, source of the great Lee, the family and friends of Sharon and Kieran gathered for a small, intimate ceremony in the historic Church at Gougane Barra. I was honoured to be their wedding photographer and as the tourists gathered and locals mingled, Sharon and Kieran met for that ever more popular wedding day ‘first look’ photo on the steps of the hotel. After joining their guests in the small chapel for a beautiful ceremony pausing only for the mellifluous hymns sung by their cousins and bridesmaids we took a stroll around the island for a few intimate shots before heading up into the old forest with the bridal party.

Although sadly, we’ve recently lost a lot of the trees in Gougane Barra to control disease, there are still enough remaining to give that sense of awe as you walk among them. As a wedding photographer, I really wanted to capture the romance as well as the sense of place and scale you get from walking among the old forest and the beautiful light filtering through the canopy made for some truly atmospheric pictures. I always include a mix of colour and black and white images for my couples and in this case the scenic surroundings made for some amazing panoramic frames too.

Before we made the glorious drive through Glengarriff, over the Caha Pass to the Kenmare Bay Hotel, we had to stop for some shots at Cronin’s Bar, a name synonymous with Gougane Barra and a funny coincidence for the new Mr. & Mrs. Cronin (no relation).

A wedding photographer often has to work closely with your videographer and on this wedding I worked with StudioPlus Videographers whom I would happily recommend.
