Love in Lyrath – Patrick & Margaret

Wedding Photographer Cork – Darren Forde

Cork and Kilkenny have a rivalry in GAA that goes back along way. But history was cast aside and there was nothing but love on show for this meeting of two hearts. Patrick, from Cork, travelled with his family and friends to the stunning Lyrath Estate in Kilkenny where he and Margaret, from Kilkenny, celebrated their wedding after a wonderful winter ceremony in the Church of St. John the Evangelist.

In the crisp air on a beautiful winter day in Kilkenny, the gents were looking cool and sharp in the winter sun with exquisitely tailored suits from Frank Wall Menswear, Margaret’s family business where we paid a visit to say hello. Then it was back to the always impressive Lyrath Estate where the celebrations began in earnest. Thank you both guys for making me a part of your wonderful day and good luck for the future.

On a beautiful, if a tad windy day in the valley of Saint Finbarr, source of the great Lee, the family and friends of Sharon and Kieran gathered for a small, intimate ceremony in the historic Church at Gougane Barra. I was honoured to be their wedding photographer and as the tourists gathered and locals mingled, Sharon and Kieran met for that ever more popular wedding day ‘first look’ photo on the steps of the hotel. After joining their guests in the small chapel for a beautiful ceremony pausing only for the mellifluous hymns sung by their cousins and bridesmaids we took a stroll around the island for a few intimate shots before heading up into the old forest with the bridal party.

Although sadly, we’ve recently lost a lot of the trees in Gougane Barra to control disease, there are still enough remaining to give that sense of awe as you walk among them. As a wedding photographer, I really wanted to capture the romance as well as the sense of place and scale you get from walking among the old forest and the beautiful light filtering through the canopy made for some truly atmospheric pictures. I always include a mix of colour and black and white images for my couples and in this case the scenic surroundings made for some amazing panoramic frames too.

Before we made the glorious drive through Glengarriff, over the Caha Pass to the Kenmare Bay Hotel, we had to stop for some shots at Cronin’s Bar, a name synonymous with Gougane Barra and a funny coincidence for the new Mr. & Mrs. Cronin (no relation).

A wedding photographer often has to work closely with your videographer and on this wedding I worked with StudioPlus Videographers whom I would happily recommend.

Sorcha & Sean tie the knot at a beautiful ceremony in the charming Inish Beg Estate

A stunning location to get married and on the finest day of the year so far, Sorcha and Sean got married in the idillic surroundings of Inish Beg Estate in Baltimore. A setting that perfectly complimented their humanist ceremony surrounded by forests, orchards and the sea. They asked me to be their wedding photographer at a fairly late stage in the planning and as I was lucky enough to enjoy this wedding as a guest also, so I got the best of both worlds, some beautiful pictures and a great day out. The next night wasn’t too bad either mind you!

Inish Beg Estate is a truly amazing setting for a wedding and a photographers dream. This was a day full of little charms and a surprise around every corner. With gorgeous light filtering through the forest canopy, the buzz of birds and nature ringing in our ears and friends and family gathered round. Thanks to Sorcha and Sean for a wonderful weekend and lots of love and best wishes for the future.
